I'm a coffee loving, travel-obsessed, thirty-something based out of Central Illinois. My best friend and I raise two kiddos on chaotic schedules in our vintage ranch and I couldn't love it more. I'm lucky enough to make a living doing what I love for the people I love! I specialize in weddings (destination + local) and boudoir. I hope we have the chance to meet!

She was Bexley’s nanny from the time she was three weeks old until she was three years old – back when Mager Image was also very much in its infancy. She grew up with us in a way. Became one of our people. One of those humans that quietly plants herself in your life and never really leaves, no matter how far away she tries to move!
So when Sage started planning her snowy winter wedding at Miller Farms Barn, this wasn’t just another date on my calendar. It was personal. Emotional. The kind of day you feel coming long before it actually arrives.
Over lots of early-morning yoga sessions, Sage and I slowly built a plan. We talked through timeline flow, how to use Miller Farms Barn for a winter wedding, and what mattered most to her if things didn’t go perfectly. Because when you plan a winter wedding in Illinois, flexibility isn’t optional.
I always tell my couples not to obsess over the forecast until the day before (Illinois will do whatever it wants anyway) but this one was different. Bexley was in the wedding. She was a junior bridesmaid. That alone had me paying closer attention.
Friday brought a light dusting of snow while we were setting up the reception and eating Hamilton Walkers for the rehearsal dinner. Enough to feel festive. Enough to feel hopeful.
Saturday morning came in hot. Or… cold?? Snow started falling around 8 a.m. and just didn’t quit. By mid-afternoon, we were buried in inches and inches of it.
Even Brandon and Barrick ended up late to the ceremony (which, yes, is typically a hard no when your family is part of the wedding party and vendor team) but they rode with a friend and made it safely and that’s what matters. Brandon looked at me and said, “If this wasn’t Sage, we would’ve turned around and gone home.”
That pretty much sums it up.
Attendance was impacted, sure. You couldn’t leave your house without knowing what you were getting into. But the people who came? They came ready. They stayed all day. They leaned in. And the barn turned into this warm, glowing little snow globe.
A huge shoutout to venue owners Kyli and Arik at Miller Farms Barn, who ended up running the entire wedding with zero staff able to make it. Arik never stopped moving snow or spreading salt, and Kyli balanced coordination and bartending like it was nothing. You would’ve never known this was their snowiest event yet.
I was layered in three pairs of leggings, four shirts, a coat, gloves, and ear protection. Sage walked outside in a wedding dress, fur optional. Brett followed in a grey suit despite admitting (as a hockey player, no less) that he absolutely cannot handle the cold.
He was not lying.
The second he stepped outside, he was shivering. But he smiled through it. We kept outdoor portraits to short bursts and every second was worth it. We caught video proof of the shivers and IG loved it 13 Million Times over! 🤯
One of my favorite moments of the entire day happened quietly. As we wrapped bridesmaid photos, I turned toward Sage and noticed a single, perfect snowflake resting on her eyelashes. I caught it in a frame, and the detail still blows my mind. It’s real. And yes, people will absolutely think it’s AI.
Bexley took her role as junior bridesmaid seriously. She showed up, listened, and nailed it. Not to brag or anything, but Sage later told me that Bexley was the best junior bridesmaid ever. Proud mama over here. 🥹
They went table to table, took photos with each group, and cut each pie themselves. Guests had to move around and mingle to get the dessert they wanted, turning the reception into a built-in icebreaker. It was intentional, thoughtful, and honestly just really fun. We’d snagged the idea from Sean & Emily’s wedding day at Carmon’s in Champaign, where they went around to each table unveiling the cake flavor at each table!
The dance floor stayed packed all night, snowstorm or not. A huge shoutout to Grant & Ben who kept the music going as long as there was a dance floor to be had.
Sage and Brett’s story started like an episode of New Girl… roommates who slowly became inseparable. They’ve done four years of long distance, with Brett driving over 1,600 hours to see Sage every weekend.
That kind of effort doesn’t lie.
The way he looks at her. The way they laugh together. The way they move through the world as a team; steady, supportive, and real.
Getting to photograph this day wasn’t just an honor. It was a reminder of why I love what I do, and why some weddings stay with you long after the snow melts.
