I'm a coffee loving, travel-obsessed, twenty-something based out of Central Illinois. I'm lucky enough to make a living doing what I love - photographing people! I specialize in weddings (destination + local), senior portraits, + boudoir.
Did you know today is National Cake Day?
Yep. You heard that right. Its a day dedicated to cake, and it’s awesome, because who doesn’t like CAKE?! Although I have to confess, I like the cake, but I’m not a fan of frosting. It’s a family thing. You’ll see the majority of us scraping off the frosting at birthday parties, and most likely swirling it around on our plate like we’re Picasso. Regardless, cake is a good thing, and one of the great perks of photographing wedding receptions, so today I want to show you some of my favorite all time wedding cakes!
Richardson Wedding – June 14th, 2014
Ok, so first off, I know this is technically not Briana + Joel’s official wedding cake. But this sports inspired grooms cake was too cool not to include! A cake that includes football, baseball, and hockey all in one is a win in my book. (Cake by: Erica Finiak)
Hurliman Wedding – June 18th, 2016
This was the first “cupcake” wedding cake I have ever seen, and actually haven’t seen one since. It was so simple but made a big impact, and I loved how Kassandra + Jordan placed it on the pedestal to raise it up! (Cake by: Caroline Kuhn)
Colburn Wedding – August 22nd, 2015
Rachel + Torey’s barn wedding was perfect, and their Willow Tree cake topper was a perfect addition to add to their rustic theme. I love the little splash of color with florals and the texture on this cake, plus they got to keep the figurine as a reminder of their big day! (Cake by: Cakes By Lori)
Broeker Wedding – June 4th, 2016
This display was a huge hit and really added to Brittany + Trey’s wedding decor, even if it was a bit tricky to get to for the cake cutting ceremony! I love the combination of pink floral and gold texture, which made this cake one to remember. (Cake by: Frosted)
Lee Wedding – June 13th, 2015
Sometimes simple is better. I really liked how Ellie + Greg topped their cupcake display with their official cutting cake. The ruffles on the bottom tier helped bring texture into the cake along with gorgeous fresh flowers that complimented the wedding colors. (Cake By: Brenda Kay Cakes)
Lampo Wedding – February 14th, 2015
This is probably my favorite cake, I don’t know, EVER. Haleigh and Michael had the perfect fairytale inspired wedding, and their cake was the centerpiece of their reception. It was the first thing you noticed when walking into the room. With each tier decorated elegantly in white and silver and topped off with the Disney Castle, it’s hard to forget this cake!
