I'm a coffee loving, travel-obsessed, twenty-something based out of Central Illinois. I'm lucky enough to make a living doing what I love - photographing people! I specialize in weddings (destination + local), senior portraits, + boudoir.
Most wedding day posts (or blog posts in general) are hard for me to write. I can’t find the words, it doesn’t flow well, or I’m too attached to the subject of the post and words simply aren’t good enough. However for Grant + Kailyn, I feel that the words come easy, and I truly believe that it’s on account of how easily it is to tell that they are madly, deeply, truly in love with one another. I’ve known Grant since high school and he’s been funny, passionate, and outgoing since the day I met him. When he brought Kailyn home and we met for the first time, it was obvious that this girl had his heart. Since meeting in college and sharing a first date over sushi, they’ve been inseparable. Not long after that first date Kailyn knew he was the one, and in April they were engaged. You’ve heard the story, and if you haven’t, you can check out their engagement session blog post to read more.
So now, here we are a little over a year later, and these two are officially husband and wife (who are currently celebrating on a West Caribbean Cruise – jealous!) and their day was one of a fairytale. They each prepared for the day ahead, the guys laughing, eating, and simply hanging out, and the girls primped, placed the final sprays of hairspray, and tears of joy were shared as Kailyn stepped into her bridal gown for the last time that morning. As I watched Kailyn exit the church to her soon-to-be husband, I got goosebumps. Grant was admittedly anxious for the day ahead and Kailyn was excited to be near him once again. The moment came for Grant to turn around to face his bride, and as a tear rolled down Kailyn’s smiling face, they embraced one another and their presence alone was enough to calm each other down in an instant. It was one of my all time favorite first looks to witness.
The day continued in a similar fashion as each moment of the day seemed charged and energized by the love that exuded from the two of them. Their ceremony ended and the newlyweds were surprised by a HORSE DRAWN CARRIAGE that would take them to their reception venue, the Valle Vista Country Club. We had less time than initially anticipated, so we agreed to finish up bridal party portraits shortly after the ceremony, followed by a few intimate portraits and save the best for last. The reception was gorgeous, and just WAIT ’til you see their cake. WOW. But the real icing on top (see what I did there?) was when Grant stood on the dance floor and sang to Kailyn. Not a dry eye in the room folks. I can’t make this stuff up. We followed up after dinner and the formal dancing (and singing!) since our Indiana sunset wasn’t until around 9:30. It gave us plenty of time to sneak back outside for better lighting, and they are my favorite portraits of the day!
Probably one of my favorite ring shots to date!
Can you say CUTIES?! Seriously one of the best moments of the day.
I loved Kailyn’s flowers, the color really POPPED!
Um, hello, a CARRIAGE RIDE to the reception?! YES PLEASE!
Grant is an extremely talented singer, who sings at a lot of people’s weddings. It was only natural that he sing at his own, though his bride had no clue of his plans.
