I'm a coffee loving, travel-obsessed, twenty-something based out of Central Illinois. I'm lucky enough to make a living doing what I love - photographing people! I specialize in weddings (destination + local), senior portraits, + boudoir.
When I was younger, I loved playing with my baby dolls and was fascinated by other babies. When I got a bit older, I began to imagine what the rest of my life would be like, and it included having kids. But then, the fascination and dreaming of children was starting to become a realization, and I was suddenly scared.
I think every new mom-to-be has their freak out moments, but I truly had a freak out year debating back and forth as to whether or not children would be in my future. Would I be able to handle being a mom? Could I balance business and family? Would the stress be too much for me? How would I run on little or no sleep? The questions were endless, so I finally opened up and talked to Brandon about all of my fears. He told me to take a step back and look around me.
I’m lucky enough to have not one, not two, but three amazing women I call mom. They are each so very different, so very unique, and I realized that these women are a perfect example of why I wanted to be a mother. Let me introduce you.
This is Brenda. She taught me how to be strong, independent, and maybe even a little hard-headed! We loved playing endless games of scrabble and watching movies. She sacrificed so much for me and my sister raising the two of us on her own. I hope to one day have the green thumb she does. Mom, I love you!
Meet Lisa. And as she puts it, she’s my mother-in-love. This woman has taught me so much about not just motherhood, but life in general. She raised the man I have come to love, and get to call husband. She is the best cook I know, hands down, and I’m so thankful that she passed on her cooking skills to Brandon because otherwise I would starve! Hopefully one day I can cook for my family the way she does! Love you Lisa!
Last, but not least, is Vicky. She is technically my step-mother, but I don’t see her as such. She has been in my life since I was three, so I literally don’t remember a time without her. She’s smart, caring, compassionate, and has been there for me no matter what. She has helped me through so much and without her I would not be the woman (or mom) I am today. I’m still working on perfecting the patience that she has. I love you, Vick!
Although I still have days of panic, I am now celebrating mother’s day as a mommy myself, and I wouldn’t take back one second of it. Being a mom is seriously the best thing in the entire world. I’m not even close to perfect, but I at least have three moms to look up to and in my eyes that’s perfection to me.
Happy Mother’s Day to all of you mommies out there, but especially Brenda, Lisa, and Vicky! May today be as wonderful as you are.
xoxo, Emily
