A Winter Catholic Ceremony in Gilman, IL followed by an Ashkum, IL Coliseum Reception
For me, one or two weddings in the off season are a perfect way to start the year. It’s kind of nice to have a winter wedding to look forward to after what could be weeks of nothing to shoot! Meghan and Nick’s February wedding was just what I needed to jump start 2016.
The day started out quiet, with the girls all getting ready in what would soon be Meghan and Nick’s first home. There was a certain calmness in the air, things were going smoothly so far. Once ready, we headed to the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Gilman, IL to start photographing the details of the morning. When I first saw Meghan’s dress, my jaw dropped. It was absolutely stunning, and I knew then and there that it was going to suit Meghan beautifully.
One of my favorite moments of their day was during the toasts at the reception. Meghan and Nick had stepped outside with me for a few extra bridal shots before the sun went down, and as we started to walk back in, the DJ stopped me at the door. He informed me that Nick’s original best man, Daniel, could not make it for their wedding day because he was finishing up boot camp thousands of miles away in Washington. However, what Meghan and Nick didn’t know, was that Daniel jumped on a plane that morning, and made it just in time for their reception. I had goosebumps hearing about it! Moments later, I strange voice came over the speakers to announce the upcoming toasts, and through the doors walked Daniel with the microphone in hand. I’ll never forget the look on Nick’s face when he realized that his best friend had indeed come home for him.
The colors of their day were royal blue and silver, perfect for the winter wedding theme they were going for. The broach bouquet Meghan carried with her popped perfectly against the beaded corset of her dress. The Ashkum Coliseum ceiling was draped with blue and silver fabric, and was accented perfectly with lighted letters spelling out “N&M”. I loved getting to know their families and celebrating alongside of them all.
Congratulations Meghan + Nick!!

The detail of Meghan’s dress was absolutely stunning.
Meghan didn’t realize it until her hair was already finished that she was going to have to cut off her t-shirt she was wearing in order to get into her dress!
I was obsessed with the blue box that Meghan’s jewelry came in. It’s the little things in life…
The church Meghan and Nick got married in was absolutely stunning.
Right before sunset we explored outside of the Ashkum Coliseum and came across this building with gorgeous details!
