I'm a coffee loving, travel-obsessed, twenty-something based out of Central Illinois. I'm lucky enough to make a living doing what I love - photographing people! I specialize in weddings (destination + local), senior portraits, + boudoir.
Hello February! Yes, it’s technically April now BUT PROGRESS IS PROGRESS and I’m still playing catch up!
I’m basically going to pick up where I left off. After January, we were ready to try and get back to a “new normal” but were still struggling to figure that out, with Bexley’s episodes and a now almost two week old. It was proving hard to juggle if I’m being totally honest, and it was hard to see the end of the tunnel that was Bexley’s emotional roller coaster.
We were on her second type of anti-seizure medication and they had told me that we would have an adjustment period with it, but I didn’t realize it would be absolute hell for weeks. I felt SO bad for Bexley. She was sleeping 10 hours a night and napping twice a day, and when she was awake she was exhausted and SO emotional over EVERYTHING. We were used to a happy, non-confrontational, sweet, and caring little girl and all of a sudden that girl was GONE. Everything was the end of the world with her, and it was a FIGHT to get her to take her meds twice a day. They had suggested a vitamin to help offset the moodiness side effect, but it wasn’t helping. It was like walking on eggshells around her, and that was draining to us, not to mention the newborn we also now had added some *spice* to the mix. 😂
I lost it. I found my breaking point.
One night I could NOT stop sobbing. I was afraid we were looking at these new emotions and behaviors long term, and I couldn’t cope. I just snapped, and the events of the last month finally caught up to me. Luckily, I was able to escape with the kids to my parents house, where in a crazy turn of events, we got snowed in, school canceled (well, moved to remote learning), and got to spend not only the night but the next day as well. It was relaxing and refreshing for all, and I’m so thankful for such a strong support system!
It was within that week that her meds regulated and our happy energetic girl came back!! That next week, we got to meet with Dr. Bieber at Lurie’s Children’s Hospital in Chicago who’s a neurology specialist in their Epilepsy center. We had been anticipating talking with him for weeks, and at the end of the day he seems optimistic about the possibility of Bex outgrowing the seizure activity – so yay! We have a follow up with him in a few months so we’ll get to see how things are progressing, but are just so thankful to have a dedicated team who specializes in children with seizure disorders!
Bex was able to get back to a regular routine with school, and we began to find a regular home routine with a newborn. We were blessed with so many sweet people who donated to the Meal Train account set up for us (thanks again Olivia!) and were fed good meals through February! I was amazed and it was all SO good.
We were able to celebrate Barrick with a welcome home party thanks to my sister-in-law Sam. It was wonderful and so nice to see everyone come to visit and meet our little guy! He got to be in the spotlight for his first professional (non-mom) photos, and did so good! We are obsessed! Thank you Holly for such sweet photos of my family of four.
Bex got to get back to playdates with friends, which she had been missing so much, and the joy on her face to be back with her friends just melts my momma heart.
Bring on March!
