I'm a coffee loving, travel-obsessed, twenty-something based out of Central Illinois. I'm lucky enough to make a living doing what I love - photographing people! I specialize in weddings (destination + local), senior portraits, + boudoir.
I’m so excited to share Mary and Josh’s gorgeous February wedding with you today! We were in a typical Illinois winter cold snap, and it was FRICKIN’ COLD. But it was also the most beautiful day for a wedding!
I met them at Spruce Street Studios in Shelbyville, IL. They got ready at the big house on the property. It’s the perfect spot for bridal parties to get ready because there is plenty of room for everyone! And you can’t beat the details in the space. I’ve had the chance to shoot there a few times before and I love it every single time! You can see just how beautiful it is in Ramey and Cody’s wedding day blog post too.
As they were getting ready for the day, I photographed her stunning dress. The lace detail made for the most beautiful detail images. Mary is a huge Vampire Diaries and Beauty and the Beast fan, and her ring is amazing. Just scroll on down to see the intricate rose detail in the middle of it!
These two opted to not do a first look, but they did want to do a special first touch moment. It was so special. They read letters they’d written to each other and it was such a sweet private moment for them. You could really tell how excited Mary was just for the whole experience of the day with Josh. All day long she was just beaming with joy!
Josh would seriously do anything just to make her happy and it showed throughout their wedding day. He actually proposed in a spot from the Vampire Diaries and they honeymooned to the Vampire Diaries location. He’s just really the sweetest!
Anyways, despite it being a really cold February wedding day, they did let me take them outside for a few photos. We kept it very short for them. I work very fast, so that worked perfectly for this situation! We were able to get them back into the heat pretty quickly.
But before we did head inside, I had to give a moment to her veil and his hat. The way the sun was hitting was just everything. Those photos are definitely some of my favorites from the day!
Then we headed back inside the house they got ready at for a few more portraits. They turned out really cool. Spruce Street has such great indoor spaces, so it was perfect for the cold day! The lighting scenario could be a bit tough for a beginning photographer, but I’ve been doing this for a minute. So I just brought in my lights and they turned out beautifully.
Then it was onto their ceremony and reception. I’ve seen the space at Spruce Street set up in many different ways, and I loved how they did it. They set up their reception very simply. They didn’t do too much, but it was absolutely beautiful!
