I'm a coffee loving, travel-obsessed, twenty-something based out of Central Illinois. I'm lucky enough to make a living doing what I love - photographing people! I specialize in weddings (destination + local), senior portraits, + boudoir.
Cat + Kenny’s big day was one I was looking forward to because we have a family connection, so I was thrilled when they chose me as their photographer. But man was it hot – like realllly hot and humid. Brandon (my hubby) was my second shooter and I was so thankful because Eaglewood was much larger than I thought and it saved my butt from running everywhere, literally!
The morning started out with Brandon and I parting ways. I was able to capture the morning details (some of my favs from the day) while Brandon went with the girls and guys. I was able to meet back up with the girls to get some super cute bridal party shots! Cat’s flower girl, Presley stole the show. She was the sweetest and even helped capture the day with my iPhone lol!! The morning is always a great time to chat with everyone and Cat mentioned to me that her and Kenny went on their first date on June 29, 2013. Guess what folks, June 29, 2019 is their wedding date! 6 years later they are MARRIED! I thought that was so cute and something special the bride didn’t even realize until a few months prior to the wedding 🙂
Cat’s bouquet was so pretty with the flowy greens at the bottom and the pops of color to match her palette. After the morning craziness, Cat + Kenny chose to do a first look which was perfect because we were running a little short on time, so that helped tremendously! My favorite part of the day was when they read each other’s letters. It was soooo sweet and ya know, emotional ;).
Wedding time came up quickly but it was sure was pretty with the ceremony overlooking the golf course! But, it WAS HOT!!! After the ceremony we grabbed family portraits and a few bridals. Once the reception started, I was able to steal Cat + Kenny for some extra sunset bridals and they turned out great! The golf course was the perfect backdrop.
“Well every day that week he kept asking if I had anything going on on Thursday and if I wanted to go to the city. He hates the city so I automatically knew something was up. We ended up getting to the city on what had to be the coldest day of the week. I believe I even asked if he really wanted to go to the city and that we could easily go the next week. He insisted on going so all bundled up we made our way to the Bean. Side note: He knew I hadn’t been ice skating in a while and we always talked about going, but never could get the time to go. Mind you he didn’t tell me we were going ice skating until we got to the city. We make it to the ice rink put our rental skates on and realize it is way too cold to be on the ice, but for some reason he didn’t want to leave just yet. He was looking around as if he was expecting someone. So I asked him what he was looking for. He said he got a text from a friend of his that “he sees him” and was trying to figure out where he was. At this point I truly felt it was coming. My stomach started to fill with butterflies and my heart started to race. He started with what I can only assume was this long well thought out speech however, I believe his nerves took over and he couldn’t find his words. Out of no where he sees this guy who is the friend who texted him earlier. We skated over to this friend who was standing on the outskirts of the rink. He asked us what else we had planned for the day and I said nothing really it was at this point Kenny then said well there is one thing. I turned around and there he was on one knee with tears filling up in his eyes he asked me to marry him. We were both crying as we embrace. It was the most perfect moment I could have every imagined and the ring was so gorgeous. Turns out this friend took a video for us, and while he was waiting for us to show up he met this random guy with a camera and asked him if he would take pictures for him so he could record it. After I of course said yes Kenny asked if we wanted to skate around still we did one lap and decided it was way too cold for that. The rest of the afternoon/evening was spent drinking champagne and celebrating. We went to our favorite restaurant in the city and had an amazing waiter who performed a poem for us after we shared the news of our engagement with him. It was a wonderful day!” – Catlyn
